About the Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society
Founded in 1945, the Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s longest-established non-governmental organisations. For more than 70 years, it has provided essential services that improve the lives of people living with mental disabilities while promoting dignity, independence and inclusion.
The organisation offers a variety of programmes and services, including:
- Professional social work services
- Residential care and supported accommodation
- Protective employment opportunities
- Community outreach programmes
- Mental health awareness initiatives
- Public education and advocacy
- Community development projects
